Hi everyone,
This week I'm in San Francisco for BoxWorks 2026, and I had a front row seat for Aaron Levie's keynote.
The theme was simple. AI agents need context to be useful, and that context lives in your content. Box is the layer that delivers it, safely.
Here's what you need to know.
Box Context Retrieval with NVIDIA. A new retrieval engine powered by NVIDIA Nemotron Retriever. Up to 20% better accuracy, 90% fewer tokens, 4x faster answers. GA early next year.
NVIDIA Nemotron models in Box AI. Nemotron 3 Ultra is available now for Enterprise Advanced customers.
Box Architect. Build agentic workflows by describing them in plain language, rolling out early next year. Box for Industries. Tailored solutions for Banking, Public Sector and Media & Entertainment, with more industries coming soon.
Agent security. Advanced agent security controls are live now. New threat protection lands early next year.
Box Context Retrieval turns enterprise files into a structured knowledge layer for agents. It works across scanned documents, images, audio and video, and it only returns content a user is allowed to see.
Hybrid search combines exact keyword matching with meaning. So a lawyer can find the right clause even when the contract uses different words.
Box is also adding NVIDIA's open weight Nemotron models to Box AI. That gives customers a cost-efficient option for high-volume work, next to the closed models they already use.
Box Architect is a workflow builder for agents. You describe a process. Architect maps the stages and decisions using content already in Box. You test it on real files, add human approvals, and choose a model that works for you from Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, NVIDIA, IBM and others.
Think contract review that learns your playbook, client onboarding from form to signature, or insurance claims from intake to settlement.
Box is packaging its AI, workflow and security tools for specific sectors:
Banking: Onboarding, deals and loan applications. The Norinchukin Bank cut contract review time by nearly 88%.
Public Sector: Case reviews, permits and public records requests, backed by FedRAMP High, GovRAMP High and DoD IL4.
Media & Entertainment: Scripts, contracts and frame-by-frame video reviews. HBO uses Box from the writers' room to final delivery.
Legal, Insurance, Life Sciences, Education and Retail are next.
Available today: classification-based policies that limit what agents can see, MCP Guardrails that limit what agents can do, and alerts when agent activity crosses your limits.
Coming early next year: faster detection of bulk downloads, protection against session hijacking and account takeover, alerts on mass deletion, and automatic responses by severity.
The best AI keynotes this year have stopped being about models. They're about getting AI into real work. BoxWorks fits that pattern.
Context is where pilots fail. I hear it in almost every conversation I have with enterprise leaders. The agent works in the demo, then fails because it doesn't know the business. Box holds the files that carry that knowledge, and Box Context Retrieval puts it to work.
Permissions make the yes possible. Banks, hospitals and agencies won't let agents loose on content without them. Permission-aware retrieval and agent guardrails are what get the security team on board.
Box Architect could change who builds. If business teams can describe a workflow and ship it with human checkpoints, AI stops being a specialist project. I'll be watching the beta closely.
I recorded interviews at BoxWorks with:
Ben Kus, CTO, Box on NVIDIA, Context Retrieval and Box Architect
Heather Ceylan, CISO, Box on agentic threats and keeping content safe
Olivia Nottebohm, COO, Box and Vaibhav Shinde, Deloitte on Box for Industries and taking AI from pilot to production
They'll go live on YouTube and LinkedIn over the coming weeks.
See you at the next one, Ravit
