Following the introduction of its latest artificial intelligence model, Muse Spark, Meta has experienced a substantial increase in downloads for its dedicated AI application. The rollout on Wednesday marks the initial model debut under the leadership of Alexandr Wang, who transitioned from Scale AI last year to direct Meta's Superintelligence Labs and restructure the technology giant's artificial intelligence initiatives.

Market analytics from Appfigures indicate a rapid ascent in user acquisition. Prior to the Muse Spark release on Wednesday, the Meta AI application held the 57th position on the United States App Store. By Thursday, the software had climbed to the fifth spot, reflecting a massive influx of new user installations.

Additional metrics from Sensor Tower highlight the scale of this growth. On April 8, 2026, the application recorded approximately 46,000 downloads on iOS devices within the United States, representing an 87 percent increase compared to the previous day. In contrast, the Android version of the software saw a more modest daily download increase of 3 percent in the U.S. market during the same timeframe.

Accessible via both mobile and web interfaces, Muse Spark represents a major technical advancement over Meta's previous Llama 4 architectures. This deployment is a strategic move to compete directly with industry leaders. To reach this stage, Meta has allocated billions of dollars toward acquiring specialized engineering talent, alongside a massive 14.3 billion dollar financial commitment to Scale AI.

The newly launched architecture processes multimodal inputs, allowing users to interact using text, images, and voice commands. It is engineered to handle diverse functional requirements, from providing health-related information to solving advanced mathematical and scientific problems. Furthermore, the system supports visual programming, enabling individuals to generate functional websites and basic video games through simple text prompts. Meta has also integrated the ability for the core model to deploy secondary autonomous agents to process multi-step user inquiries.

Over the next several weeks, the Muse Spark infrastructure will be integrated into Meta's broader ecosystem, including Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger, Facebook, and the company's smart eyewear products. Coinciding with the backend upgrade, the consumer-facing website and mobile application received a comprehensive interface redesign. This update introduces a feature that permits users to toggle between different processing modes optimized for specific workflows.

Competitive Landscape and Global Reach

Despite the rapid surge in new users, Meta's software currently trails behind the most established generative AI platforms in the mobile marketplace. OpenAI's ChatGPT maintains the top position, followed by Anthropic's Claude in second place, and Google's Gemini securing the third rank.

Addressing the platform's upward trajectory, Wang shared an update on the social network X early Thursday. He highlighted that the application had reached the sixth position overnight and emphasized that its momentum was continuing. In his post, he also made a lighthearted observation regarding the high ranking of a prominent convenience store application.

Broader historical data from Appfigures shows that the Meta AI application has accumulated 60.5 million total installations globally across major app marketplaces. Of that total, 25 million downloads have taken place in the current calendar year. When comparing the most recent five-month period to the software's initial five months on the market, download rates have surged by 138 percent. Geographically, India represents the largest market for the application, with the United States, Brazil, Pakistan, and Mexico rounding out the top five regions for user acquisition.

Engagement outside of the mobile ecosystem has also spiked. Sensor Tower analytics reveal that daily active web users for the Meta AI platform in the United States grew by more than 450 percent day-over-day. Furthermore, overall daily web traffic in the U.S. hit an all-time peak on April 8, 2026, marking a 570 percent jump when compared against the daily average recorded over the preceding month.
