Insurtech Startup Outmarket Secures $34.5M in Rapid Follow-On Funding Round

Before his company went public earlier this year, Vishal Sankhala served as head of product at Ethos, a digital life insurance distribution platform. With prior experience at Facebook and Uber, Sankhala had built a strong track record in engineering leadership. By late 2023, he had departed Ethos and founded a new venture called Outmarket, a startup applying artificial intelligence to eliminate the heavy administrative burden that insurance agents and brokers face on a daily basis.
The insurance industry, despite its enormous scale, continues to rely heavily on manual processes. Sankhala has pointed out that roughly 95 percent of insurance sold in the United States and globally still moves through human agents, and that the workflow supporting those agents remains largely unchanged - paper-heavy, time-consuming, and prone to inefficiency. He sees this as a significant opening for technology to make a meaningful difference in one of the world's largest industries.
A Focus on Commercial Insurance Complexity
Outmarket has deliberately targeted the commercial insurance segment, which is considerably more intricate than personal insurance lines. Unlike standard auto or home policies, commercial coverage must be tailored to the specific nature of each business, its risk profile, and the regulatory environment it operates in. A single business may need to evaluate a wide range of coverage types - from general liability and workers' compensation to directors and officers (D&O) liability, among many others.
Sankhala has noted that there are more than 250 distinct types of coverage available in the commercial insurance market, and that each one involves its own application forms, supporting documents, and evaluation criteria. For brokers managing dozens or hundreds of clients, working through that volume manually creates a substantial drag on productivity and limits the time they can spend on higher-value client interactions.
Outmarket's platform uses AI to handle those repetitive, document-intensive tasks automatically. The goal is to allow brokers - including large intermediaries such as Marsh and Aon - to more quickly assess policy options and make recommendations to their clients, freeing up capacity for work that genuinely requires human judgment, such as guiding clients through claims or responding to urgent coverage needs.
Strong Early Traction in a Traditionally Slow-Moving Sector
Since launching its current product approximately 14 months ago, Outmarket has brought on more than 300 insurance agencies as customers. Notably, 25 percent of those clients rank among the top 100 agencies in the country - a signal that the platform has resonated with established players, not just smaller or more experimental firms. Sankhala has described this pace of adoption as unusually fast for an industry that does not typically embrace new technology quickly.
That momentum has clearly caught the attention of the investment community. Outmarket is announcing the close of a $34.5 million Series B funding round, led by SignalFire. Additional participants in the round include Fika Ventures, Permanent Capital Ventures, TTV Capital, and Dash Fund. According to a source with direct knowledge of the deal, the round values Outmarket at approximately $355 million.
What makes the timing particularly striking is that this Series B comes just four months after the company completed a $17 million Series A. The rapid follow-on reflects both the speed at which the company has been growing and the level of conviction investors have developed around its approach to the market.
A Competitive but Expansive Market
Outmarket is not the only company working to build an AI-powered operational layer for insurance brokerages. Other startups pursuing similar opportunities include Fulcrum AI and Further AI, both of which are also developing tools aimed at reducing friction in the broker workflow. Competition in this space is growing as investors and entrepreneurs recognize how much room there is for improvement in insurance operations.
Even so, the scale of the market provides ample space for multiple players to find footing. The U.S. property and casualty insurance sector alone generates more than one trillion dollars in annual premiums, making it one of the largest and most structurally complex industries in the country. Sankhala believes that by helping agencies operate more efficiently and intelligently, Outmarket has a long runway ahead - regardless of how many competitors enter the space.
The company's trajectory since its founding in late 2023 suggests that its combination of deep industry focus, practical AI applications, and a leadership team with experience scaling technology products at major firms has positioned it well for continued expansion in the months ahead.
